Collection 1
"Taxi Driver"
The taxi searched me out
And found me.
It was a more comfortable ride than the bus,
Which I had originally intended to take.
Furthermore, I would get there on time.
The taxi was the obvious choice.
The driver was in tune
To an undercurrent of political, spiritual truths.
I found this out by asking him
Where he was from.
He told me was from Ethiopia,
A war besieged country.
And we both talked about the ills of wars
Put on by old men for young men’s expense.
The driver was nice but firm about his opinions;
I was tactical and questioning.
He got me where I was going on time,
Also, leaving me $10 poorer but still a little richer.
